How do I become a member?

The easiest way to become a member is to come along, ask to join at the door and fill in a membership card. Membership costs 5.00 for the year and you'll receive a tri-annual programme listing of the acts appearing at the club. Membership entitles you to a reduced entrance fee to the club every week. Alternatively, please email us and we'll arrange membership by post.

Are floor singers welcome?

Hitchin is a concert style club and often has two main acts, which doesn't normally leave time during the evening for floor singers.  There are many local clubs, most of which have singers nights 2 or 3 evenings a month, and time for floor singers even on guest nights.  The Unicorn magazine lists all the local clubs and their programmes.

Can I stay at the Hotel?

Yes.  The Sun Hotel has wonderful management, who do a special deal for any of our audience who wish to stay over on a Sunday night.  Give them a ring on 01462 436411, mention that you are going to the Folk Club and you will be amazed at the reduction!

Can I eat at the Hotel before the concert?

Yes.  The hotel has an excellent restaurant with excellent food at a reasonable price.  The restaurant opens at 6.00pm.

Does the club allow children?

We are pleased to welcome children to the club.  On ticketed nights, there are no concessions and everyone needs a ticket at full price.  On non-ticketed nights (most of our concerts are non-ticketed), members can bring children under 16 along free of charge.  This concession does not apply to non-members!  Young people in full time education are admitted at half price. We do expect children to be kept under control and quiet, moving them to the bar if they become noisy.

Can I book tickets in advance?

We have all ticket events for nights that we know we are going to sell out, such as  Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham, Seth Lakeman, Oyster Band, and Show of Hands.  The Club has a capacity of 150, but we are increasingly getting toward full capacity.  Sound check permitting, we open the doors at 7.30pm.  If you are there then, there certainly won't be 150 people in front of you!

We have now set up a system whereby tickets may be purchased for any night.  This is  primarily for those with a distance to travel and therefore concerned that they may not get in, but is open to anyone.  A seat will be reserved for those who have purchased an advanced ticket, but we will not reserve more than 30% of our capacity.  Please email us with your ticket requests.  Please note: Membership prices refer to members only.  Tickets for non-members must be purchased as such!

Goodwill is extremely important to us, but we are still having problems with tickets being returned at the door on the night, with no realistic chance of us being able to resell them.  On all ticket nights people rarely turn up on the off chance any more, and it is obviously too late to contact the waiting list.  In view of this continuing situation, we have decided that we will not be able to guarantee a refund on tickets that we are told about after the Saturday preceding the concert.  If we are able to resell tickets returned after that, then we will refund.
